Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is characterized by the presence of autoantibodies against native double stranded DNA (dsDNA). Additionally, these patients also exhibit autoantibodies against the single stranded form of DNA. Together with the determination of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) the determination of dsDNA antibodies is the most important serological criteria for diagnosing SLE. Autoantibodies against dsDNA have a diagnostic specificity of about 96% and a sensitivity of about 91% for diagnosing SLE. Anti‑dsDNA antibodies are useful to monitor therapy and to predict disease progression. In the Anti-dsDNA as well in the Anti‑ssDNA kit human recombinant DNA is used as antigen. Thus the Anti‑dsDNA kit permits the detection of the lupus-specific autoantibodies with excellent sensitivity and specificity.
