| Up to 80% of all patients suffering from systemic
lupus erythematosus manifest autoantibodies against
the histone proteins H1, H2A, H2B, H3 and H4. Usually
these patients also exhibit anti-dsDNA antibodies.
More frequently histone antibodies are detected in
patients with drug induced lupus syndromes, e g. after
taking drugs such as hydralazine und procainamide.
The number of positive findings in these patients can
rise to 95%, dependent on the drug. However, antidsDNA
antibodies are absent. Additionally, anti-histone
antibodies can occur in patients suffering from
primary biliary cirrhosis, rheumatoid arthritis and
scleroderma. |
