| Anti-Rib-P autoantibodies are highly specific for systemic
lupus erythematosus (95%) since they cannot be
detected in other autoimmune diseases or infectious
diseases. However, only 10 – 20% of all SLE patients
manifest anti-Rib-P antibodies. The antibodies are
directed against ribosomal proteins and detect a common
epitope of three phosphoproteins (P0, P1 and P2)
located on the 60 S subunit of the ribosomal RNP complex.
Accordingly, those antibodies have been designated
as Anti-Rib-P or Anti-RPP (anti-ribosomal
p-proteins). |
