| Besides antibodies against thyroglobulin patients suffering
from Hashimoto's thyroiditis, primary myxedema
and Grave's disease also exhibit autoantibodies
that are targeted against the thyroid peroxidase TPO.
TPO is an integral membrane protein (MW 100 kDa) of
the apical plasma membrane of the thyrocytes. The
enzyme catalyses not only the iodination of thyroglobulin
but is also involved in thyroxin synthesis. TPO is
identical with the microsomal antigen.
This assay is also available in pinplate format. |
